Join Greater Anderson Promotes Peace (GAPP) and Anderson Churches for Racial Unity (ACRU) to discuss local author Mary Annette Pember's new book Medicine River: A Story of Survival and the Legacy of Indian Boarding Schools at LCR, Wednesday, August 13, 7-8:30 p.m.
Mary Annette Pember, who lives in the Cincinnati area, "is perfectly positioned to write this book," according to the New York Times Book Review. "She's an enrolled citizen of the Red Cliff Band of the Wisconsin Ojibwe, a journalist who has reported on Native issues for more than two decades, and the granddaughter and daughter of boarding school survivors."
Medicine River is both a personal family story of trauma and healing, and a deeply-researched investigation of the history and effects of Indian boarding schools on individual students, their families, and tribal survival.
