As an adult visiting developing countries, I see there too, the importance of growing food. Droughts, hurricanes, and other natural disasters create dire circumstances in areas of subsistence farming. In Guatemala, it is also important for families to learn about nutrition, as children are often malnourished because they eat only corn tortillas, which are filling but do not include everything needed to be healthy.
Seeing hunger and malnutrition up close makes the prayer “give us this day our daily bread” have much more meaning to me as I globalize the “us” to mean everyone in the world. I pray that one day there will be a place at the table for all.
