As LCR’s Mission Interpreter, it’s my job to share the mission and ministry of the synod and worldwide church with our congregation. Our stewardship supports the many vital ministries of our church, as well as providing for the operating expenses of the church building, our Pastors and staff, and supporting worship and education. But every year we also provide “Benevolences” to the Southern Ohio Synod (SOS).
In our synod, our support covers 199 congregations, Trinity Lutheran Seminary, new church development, youth and family programs, campus ministry, and leadership programs throughout Southern Ohio.
In our country, our support to the SOS and ELCA covers 9300+ national congregations, diversity initiatives for Lutheran churches, communication tools and technology, and Lutheran Services in America, which works for justice, impacting 1 in 50 Americans.
In our world, our support to the ELCA covers disaster response after hurricanes and earthquakes, providing emergency relief from baby formula to solar-powered cell phone chargers. Our global reach extends to hunger programs, fighting malaria and HIV/AIDS, and aiding refugees. The ELCA supports social ministry around the world to provide health care, alcohol and drug treatment, counseling, and child abuse prevention.
As amazing as LCR ministries are, I am humbled by the scope of the broader church that delivers our vision of God’s work. Our stewardship allows us to show our Christian love not just in Cincinnati and LCR’s associated ministries, but to expand our impact around the globe.
