Pastor Nicole Kelly

Pr. Nicole Kelly grew up on the Southwest side of Chicago in Tinley Park. She was an active member of her ELCA Lutheran home church community from middle school through young adulthood as a member of the youth group, Sunday school teacher, and Assisting Minister.  Her congregation was extremely supportive and provided her many opportunities to develop skills for ministry and leadership.  She discerned a call to ordained ministry early in her high school years and sought an education at a Lutheran college, Valparaiso University.

Valpo also nurtured and nourished Pr. Nicole's gifts for ministry.  As an Allen Scholar (a scholarship mentoring program for those called to service in the church), she was given unique opportunities to learn about many forms of ministry, to establish a strong foundation in Lutheran theology, and minister to other students.  She graduated in 2003, having majored in Theology with minors in Social Work and Psychology.

Pr. Nicole went directly to seminary following undergrad and completed her first year of seminary studies at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago before transferring to Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, OH, graduating with her Masters of Divinity in 2008.  Nicole then served as the Director of Youth and Family Ministries at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Healthy before receiving a call to serve Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in 2012.

Pr. Nicole is married to Jay Kelly, a Mechanical Engineer for General Electric Aviation, whom she met at Valparaiso University.  Jay and Nicole have been married for 10 years and have a 5 year old daughter, Rachel, who is their joy and rich blessing.

In her free time, Pr. Nicole is an avid reader (mostly of audiobooks:) and likes to keep up with contemporary issues and pop culture (especially of the Superhero variety!).  On her day off, she can be found volunteering in her daughter's classroom, building blanket forts, using Legos to create "bad guy lairs," drawing with sidewalk chalk, or taking in the latest kid flick at the theater.  It's also important to know that while she has never said that she is Wonder Woman, she and Wonder Woman have never been seen in a room together at the same time.  ;)
