Manna from Heaven/Appalachia - Manna from Heaven is a rural 501-3c located in southeastern Appalachian Kentucky. LCR has had a ten-year relationship with this food pantry located in a very depressed area in Pike County. LCR members make monthly trips to Manna from Heaven delivering food, clothing, household goods, toiletries, as well as hope and friendship to the people of Myra, Kentucky. Manna from Heaven receives budget support from LCR’s Outreach budget, from LCR members, and from Outreach grants and ELCA Domestic Hunger grants.  This financial support has been leveraged by 50x with food acquisitions from Master Provisions in Northern Kentucky and Northern Kentucky Hunger Relief, with supplemental donated frozen food items from local restaurants.

LCR involvement:  LCR has developed the “Seeds of Change” Program, giving LCR members the opportunity to purchase seed packets and gardening tools that provide the opportunity for people in Pike County to grow their own food supply -- promoting a sustainable food source.   At Christmas LCR has a “giving tree” opportunity for members to provide toys for children who until the partnership with LCR did not receive Christmas gifts. Donated furniture and home good items are accepted, and these donations have allowed children to sleep in beds, or have a desk on which to do school work.  Volunteers are always needed to load/unload the items in the truck on delivery day.  Opportunities are publicized through church bulletins, and through emails from Cindy Zorn.  Please contact LCR member Cindy Zorn at, if you would like to be informed of Appalachian events.
