History

Lutheran Church of the Resurrection began in November, 1971 with six couples coming together to form a new church. The first pastor was Pastor Robert Menter. He had experience in forming mission churches. The concept of a covenant-based church, however, was quite innovative.

In the early days, members met in each other's homes a few times until they made the ecumenical arrangement to meet at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church on Beechmont Avenue. Our desire to be ecumenical encouraged us to seek this temporary location. Occasionally, our pastor would preach to St. Timothy's members and St. Timothy's priest would preach to our members.

Membership grew. Sunday school was begun in 1973. Music was added to the services. Members with musical ability were called on to use their talents. Piano, violin, clarinet, and horns were all used in our worship services.

Pastor Menter left the congregation in 1980. A substitute pastor led the church until 1982 when Pastor Erwin Streng became pastor. In 1988 we purchased our current lot at the corner of Clough Pike and Nagel Road and built our first building consisting of a multi-purpose gathering space, a kitchenette, two offices and bathrooms. Much of the interior work was done by the members. In 1991, we added a classroom wing. In 1996 Pastor Streng retired from ministry at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. Our current pastor is Pastor Henry Zorn, who has been with us since January 1997.

In September 2003 we broke ground for construction of a new sanctuary, offices, a kitchen, a larger nursery and classrooms to enable us to improve our ministry to our community. This new building was completed in May, 2004
