LCR embraces the ELCA's direction on Mission, as being something we do in partnership with others walking together as companions on a journey as we discover the things we have in common. With this in mind, we have developed two companion relationships: in Guatemala City and Zarrentin, Germany.
In July 2008, our Church Council approved a Covenant relationship with the Iglesia Luterana Augustina de Guatemala's La Resurreccion congregation in Guatemala City and an informal relationship with the rural parish of Catarina with Padre Guatalupe. During our January 2010 trip to Guatemala, we formalized the Covenant with La Resurreccion by signing a Covenant document.
La Resurreccion and Catarina are mentioned each week in our Sunday prayers, and we will be in their prayers. There are also quarterly emails between La Resurreccion and LCR, with the ILAG staff translating for each of us. Our hope is to visit our partners in Guatemala every 12-18 months. In addition to the long-distance relationships, we are also learning more about the local Guatemalan community and have participated in some joint events.
From prayers to scholarship donations to sewing quilts and tote bags, there are many ways you can become involved in this ministry, with or without going on a trip to Guatemala. If you'd like to learn more, contact Christie Brown.
Here is a YouTube show of our most recent trip.
